FacultyWe live in a ‘communication age.’ New technologies increase the diversity of ways in which we communicate with one another, and modern society demands that we spend more time producing and processing information than ever before in human history. Along with these changes, however, we spend a lot of time in “old” forms of communication: face-to-face conversation, reading newspapers, watching television. The Department of Communication is concerned with all of those processes and more. Our distinguished faculty examine the ways in which human beings exchange messages with one another, the content of those messages, and the effects they have for individuals and society. We are proud of the accomplishments of our faculty. We are pursuing important research on key societal problems. At the same time, we are teaching students practical communication skills as well as more theoretical issues concerning the nature of communication and its role in society.
