Study Abroad
Studying abroad is a creative way to expand one's educational experience. The Communication Department accepts classes from Universities around the world. Our students have studied in Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, England, Ireland and in our neighboring South American countries. If you are interested in studying abroad, you must follow the steps outlined below. Your study abroad advisor can help you with this process.
*Please note that your communication advisors are there only to approve the classes you have chosen.
Student's FIRST step: You MUST first meet with a Study Abroad advisor at:
Office of Study Abroad & Student Exchange, 939 N. Tyndall/ phone (520) 626-9211/ website: http://studyabroad.arizona.edu
When you meet with a Study Abroad advisor, they will help you select a program and provide you with a Study Abroad information packet along with program information regarding course names/descriptions, etc. Depending on which program you select (refer to A or B below), your next step will be:
Program A.
1. For all U of A programs regarding the transferability/acceptance of General Education courses, you will meet with Diana Leonard (Comm 115).
2. For all U of A programs regarding transferability/acceptance for Communication courses, you will meet with Diana Leonard (Comm 115).
3. When meeting w/Diana you MUST BRING: (a) a current SAPR (w/name and student ID downloaded from your student link) (b) the program's catalog of courses, course descriptions, numbering system (c) the Study Abroad's information packet form 'Course Selection Sheet' or 'U of A Transfer Credit Pre-Approval,' already completed by you, listing courses you want to be considered.
Program B.
1. For all Non - U of A programs, the steps you need to take will be identical with the steps listed above under 'A,' with one additional step you must take PRIOR to meeting with Diana.
The Study Abroad information packet you receive is "Tips for Students on Study Abroad Programs through other Domestic or Foreign Universities."
The form INSIDE this packet called "The University of Arizona Transfer Credit Pre-Approval," must be completed (listing the institution name and the courses you want considered) and then taken to the International Undergraduate Admissions office/Nugent Bldg. Rm. 11. You will need to take the program catalogue which contains the program course numbering system.
This form MUST be PRE-APPROVED and SIGNED by the appropriate authority, indicating the institution is accredited, the coursework selected will be accepted as transfer credit by the U of A, and whether the course(s) are accepted as upper or lower division credit.
2. Next, refer to and complete 'A- 1, 2, and 3,' above, after completing step B. 1.
3. Follow all of the 'Tips for Students on Study Abroad Programs through other Domestic or Foreign Universities' steps, as indicated, making certain that you process a U of A Leave of Absence.
