Checklist of Requirements for Major
Pre-Comm Requirements to take Comm 228 and Comm 300
- Student must complete Math 109/110 and Comm 101 with a grade of C or higher
- Student must complete Comm 228 and Comm 300 registration form, attach a SAPR including Student ID and name and turn form into advising center to receive permission to take Comm 228 and Comm 300
Pre-Comm Requirements to take become Comm Major
- Student must have a 2.5 GPA (B and C minimum) between Comm 101 and Comm 228. Two attempts for each course only*
- Student must pass Comm 300 and maintain a 2.0 to become a Comm major
Comm 101 and Comm 228 Attempts*
- Student is allowed two attempts each for Comm 101 and 228 to obtain a grade of C or higher. Attempts at Pima, other institutions, and attempts at other equivalent courses at UA, etc. are included in number of attempts
- If two attempts of either course were made and the student has not achieved the required 2.5 GPA, the student will not be advanced to the Comm major. There are no exceptions to this rule
- We strongly encourage you not to take additional hours of Comm courses before you have gained the required grades in 101 and 228
- Taking additional hours without the 101/228 grades will not gain you admittance into the major. If you do not gain access to the major, then the additional hours you took may not advance you towards graduation
- If you fail to obtain the GPA in 101/228, you will need to seek advising concerning other options for a major. Options might include pursuing your current minor as a major, pursuing an Interdisciplinary Studies major, or using credits as general electives.
- Good places to start your investigations of alternate majors would be with the University College or SBS advising

After completing Comm 228 and 300 – become a Comm Major
- Complete Form to register for Upper Division courses. Attach a SAPR including Student ID and name and turn into Advising Center in Comm 115
