2009 NEH Summer Institute : Nature and History at the Nation's EdgeNature and History at the Nation's Edge: A Field Institute in Environmental and Borderlands History is a 2009 summer institute for university and college teachers, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Centered at the University of Arizona, the four-week long interdisciplinary institute draws upon the resources of the university and the region. It brings together college teachers with scholars and experts to explore the Southwest borderlands.
Activities include classroom seminars, field trips, archival studies, and an extended 15-day field study tour through the arid lands and historical landscapes of Arizona, New Mexico, and Sonora, Mexico.
