    History Graduate Association News

    • HGA to start Graduate Student Brownbag Discussions – This fall, the HGA will be implementing a series of brownbags for graduate students to share current research, conference papers, and dissertation/thesis chapters. The first brownbag will be presented by Ph.D. Candidate Michael Matthews later this fall, date TBA. If you are interested in presenting your research at a brownbag discussion, please contact any of the HGA officers to discuss scheduling.
    • GPSC College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Election – There are currently 2 vacancies in our college for GPSC representatives. A SBS College Representative must attend the bi-monthly GPSC meetings, serve on a GPSC standing committee, and serve as a graduate representative on a university-wide committee. The stipend is $150 per semester. The deadline for declaring candidacy is Friday, September 21. Elections will be held Monday, October 1. If interested, please see the GPSC elections page.
    • University Van Certification – The HGA is encouraging grads to consider receiving the university's High Occupancy Vehicle certification, which will allow you to drive university-owned vehicles with a seating capacity of 8-15. This could be useful when considering transportation to future conferences. Anyone who is interested should register for training at the university's Risk Management site for one of this fall's 3-hour training sessions.
    • Workshop Volunteers – Any faculty or grad student interested in leading or co-leading a workshop this year (see below for currently scheduled workshops) should contact an HGA officer to discuss ideas.
