The History of the Tucson International Mariachi Conference
The MASRC chronicled the roots of the Tucson International Mariachi Conference, an annual event started in 1983. The oral history report includes interviews with the founding members as well as performers, including Linda Ronstadt. The conference is widely credited with helping spark a resurgence of interest in the Mariachi music genre. The Mariachi history was done as part of the Local Legacies Project which is part of the Bicentennial celebration of the Library of Congress. The TIMC report was written and coordinated by historian Gregory S. Rodríguez, who is on the faculty of the MASRC. Students in the Mexican American Studies program at the UA conducted the interviews.
