Information for Prospective Students

Prospective students who are interested in attending the University of Arizona as a Psychology major must submit application materials to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Requirements for admission for freshman and transfer students can be found at http://admissions.arizona.edu/. Students can apply on line or request for application materials to be sent to them. When filling out the application for admission students are applying for admission to the University of Arizona, the Honors College (http://www.honors.arizona.edu), and scholarships. No additional materials need to be submitted. Please see the admissions web site above for more information or contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office directly at 520-621-3237. Students needing financial assistance can apply for financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. All information regarding this application and financial aid can be found at http://financialaid.arizona.edu/.

Students who are accepted into the honors college have the opportunity to graduate with honors. Please visit the following web page for the requirements to graduate with honors Honors Program.

The Psychology department offers a variety of ways for students to become involved with faculty research in different aspects of psychology. Students can work in faculty member’s research labs and earn independent study credit which can be used toward their psychology major. Students can also seek internship or practicum credit by working with an agency in Tucson.

Curriculum requirements vary for all Psychology majors, they are dependent upon your catalog year and whether you are pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. You can find this information by going to the general UA catalog web page at following web page, Curriculum Requirements and clicking on the appropriate academic catalog for your program requirements. If you are a freshman and have questions about your general education curriculum requirements you can visit the Freshman Year Center located in the Integrated Learning Center or if you are a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior you can visit the Office of Academic Services located in Modern Languages 347.

The Department of Psychology integrates its teaching and research missions in a variety of ways. Our undergraduate major, one of the largest at the university, focuses on providing students with a solid grounding in research methods, and broad exposure to three domains: (1) Cognition, Emotion and Motivation, (2) Psychobiology and Neuroscience, and (3) Individual and Social Processes. Our graduate program includes concentrations in clinical, social, and evolutionary psychology, in neural cognition and neural systems, and in psychology, policy and law
